What is TDS?
The Indian government uses TDS, which stands for Tax Deducted at Source, to collect income tax. In this arrangement, the payer deposits the amount with the Income Tax Department after deducting a specific percentage of tax from the amount paid to the payee. When completing their income tax return, the payee can claim credit for the deducted tax after receiving the net amount.
The basic concept is straightforward: if an individual or organization makes a specific payment to another individual or organization, TDS must be subtracted before the entire amount is paid to the second individual or organization.
Does TDS affect you
There are numerous ways for someone to make money. The amount of income tax they must pay is determined by their tax bracket and is a one time payment or a recurring obligation. TDS is a critical term in Indian because of its importance to taxpayers. It is a way for the government to collect income tax, and it is convenient for the deductee because it is done automatically.
